US foreign policy towards Somalia reeks of disaster. It is one thing to emphasis on our problems and this so called threat on the greater region, but where is the promised financial and political support? It is audacious for Obama to be quick on the Kampala bombings but is slow to say anything on our humanitarian situation. So ultimately, Somalia does not need political interference of his likes rather it needs help in every other aspect.
The US boasts of being a freind of Somalia but it has shown from time and time again that it is dedicated to the nation's destruction and devastation. Just a quick insight, the US did not sponsor Somalia during the era of the nationalist fight for independence, the US also supported Ethiopia during the Ogaden war of 1964 with LBJ apparently trying to end hostilities at the Khartoum conference but denied Somalia of its share. The US also provided financial aid in the later years of difficulty and rebellion during the dictatorship era. It was also the major force involved in the infamous Operation Restore Hope mission to Somalia during the 90s where their humanitarian scams were exposed. And last but not least, it was the financial buddy of Ethiopia once again in the so called War on Terror in the Horn of Africa, driving the Somali Islamic Courts away from power, leaving the nation in a permanent state of limbo and uncertainty.
Somalia does not need the interference of the US and neither should it be encouraged.
